Preparing Your Home for Your Newborn Session

Client Tips

post filed in:

When it comes to getting your house ready for your newborn photo session, less truly is more. You have enough on your plate! There’s no need to deep clean or redecorate—I promise! I’m not looking for perfection; I’m looking for the good light and simple, beautiful spaces. We still want this to feel like your lived-in home, so a perfect, curated space is not the goal. When I arrive for your session, I’ll take a look around and choose a few, light-filled pockets of your home to use and we’ll go from there! I’ll gently guide you and your family from space to space as we follow the light and make our way through your session.

Tips & Tricks to Prep Your Home

Here are a few, simple things you can do to get your home ready, but before the session starts, I’ll do a quick sweep as well to make sure our spaces are photo-ready.

Notice rooms in your home that have the best light (you probably already know!), and do a very quick-tidy of those spaces. No need to a full dusting or decluttering! We are simply trying to create a calm and clutter-free environment.

  • Toss laundry into a basket
  • Fluff pillows/ fold blankets
  • Clear surfaces by throwing away trash and tucking away stray cups or toys
  • Open the blinds/curtains in these spaces to maximize light

I’ll always grab a few room shots of the nursery, so definitely do a sweep in there, but it does not need to be perfect!

If there’s natural light coming through the windows and a soft spot to snuggle, we’re all set. I’ll gently guide you throughout the session and work around the rhythms of your baby. The goal isn’t a perfect house—it’s to capture the sacred, sleepy beauty of this season. So take a deep breath mama, and trust that your home is ready with just a little sprucing!

You’ve got this!
